Our Commitment to Community at Mistral Data
At Mistral Data, we see sustainability as more than just cutting carbon or investing in green tech. For us, it’s about the bigger picture of environmental, social and governance (ESG). While we’re taking important steps on the environmental side, we’re just as proud of how we support the “S”, our people, our communities and society as a whole.
Volunteering and Giving Back
Everyone on our team gets two volunteering days each year, and we really encourage people to spend them on causes that matter to them. It’s not about ticking a box. It’s about giving our colleagues the space to use their time and skills to make a difference where they care most.
Here are some of the inspiring ways our colleagues have chosen to give back.
Owen Bevan – Cultural Celebration Day at Primary School
“I volunteered at my child’s school for a Cultural Celebration Day, representing Ireland with soda bread, music, and sports. It was a chance for children to celebrate cultural differences and strengthen community ties.”
Lizzie Duffy – Ginnel Garden Project
“I worked with neighbours to transform a neglected passageway into a Ginnel Garden. In 2024, it was featured by BBC News and the RHS as part of an Open Garden Day.”
Simon Dirks-Wooding – St Ann’s Foundation
“I used my volunteering days to design and develop a website for St Ann’s Foundation, a local special educational needs charity. It was incredibly rewarding to apply my technical skills to such a meaningful cause.”
These are just a few examples of how our colleagues show that small contributions of time and skills can go a long way, building stronger communities, supporting good causes and creating lasting connections.
Supporting Young People
For the past three years, we’ve teamed up with London Youth Rowing to take part in their annual Race the Thames challenge. It’s a week-long virtual race that gets everyone moving, cheering each other on and, let’s be honest, getting a bit competitive too.
At Mistral Data, we split into teams and raced against each other (and other businesses), which meant plenty of banter, sore legs and laughs along the way. Most importantly, it raised money to help young people improve their lives through sport, proving that fitness, fun and fundraising can all go together.
Investing in Education
Since 2021, we’ve been proud to partner with the University of Bath, supporting student internships and dissertations to help bridge the gap between academia and industry. Two students who started their journey with us through this programme are now full-time members of the Mistral Data team, which is something we’re really proud of.
This impact is also recognised by our partners at the University of Bath, who have seen first-hand the value the programme creates for students.
Sophie Webb – MSc Internship and Projects Officer, University of Bath
“Partnering with Mistral Data has been an overwhelmingly positive experience. The team provides valuable, tailored opportunities allowing students to put their learning into practice through projects with tangible goals and strong team support. Many students have gone on to secure quality long-term roles using the skills developed during their time at Mistral, and we are very grateful for the relationship we’ve built.”
Social Sustainability at the Heart of Mistral Data
We believe in giving back, whether that’s through volunteering, supporting young people through sport or helping students take their first steps into the world of work. The aim is always the same, to make a positive difference.
For us, sustainability is about people as much as the planet and that’s a responsibility we’re proud to take on.
